We're watching the Detectives

THE MTV Spanking New Music Tour rolled into London last night and lived up to
every aspect of its name.

Merseyside trio THE RASCALS kicked off the intimate Islington Academy
Show.

Clearly riding high on his album chart-topping success with THE LAST SHADOW
PUPPETS alongside ARTIC MONKEYS’ ALEX TURNER, cheeky singer
and guitarist MILES KANE looked confident.

And it was clear his heart remains with The Rascals, as he had the crowd
singing along to their dark and rocky pop melodies, including excellent
upcoming single Freakbeat Phantom.

They were swiftly followed by Peckham boys THE METROS, who picked up
the pace and ran with it.

Swaggering on stage, decked out in pirate hats and shades, their lively set
reflected the inspiration of their hero IAN DURY – with next single
Last Of The Lookers even produced by his son BAXTER.

With a potent 1950’s rock ‘n’ roll influence, their dynamic brand of indie
punk was pure entertainment.
Opening act ... The RascalsLIVEPIX
Fully revved up, the crowd lapped up headliners THE PIGEON DETECTIVES.

Frontman MATT BOWMAN pogoed around, flailing his trademark shaggy hair
and spraying onlookers with water.

(Un) Fortunately on this occasion there were no girls with wet T-shirts.

Not dampened by security attempts to stop them crowd surfing, the audience
clapped and bounced around as Bowman leapt from the drum kit and belted out
a boisterous rendition of favourite Take Her Back.

After criticising the dubious taste of a fan’s jumper that had been chucked
onstage, the boys treated the crowd to more of their new material.
All in all it was a spanking good show.

Italian isaac Merrit Singer Luca Carboni was innate in Bologna on October 6, 1962. He cultivated his love of music from a edward Young age, perusing pianoforte from the eld of six-spot, and by 14 he was organizing rock groups among his musician friends. Playing gigs with these punk and new wave-influenced groups, Carboni became a fixture in Bologna's subway system music scene up through the early '80s. A friendly relationship with manufacturer Gaetano Curreri offered Carboni his number 1 solo production with RCA. The platter, ...Intanto Dustin Hoffman Non Sbaglia un Film, sold better than 30,000 copies, a noteworthy winner for the relatively unknown creative person. Carboni's second gear tone ending, Forever, sold over 70,000 albums. Two days later, a self-titled criminal record featuring radio hits like "Silvio Lo Sai" and "Farfallina" sold a jolly unconvincing 700,000 units, dragging Carboni with it onto Italy's Hit Parade. As is vulgar with Italian bolt down stars, many of these hits were re-released for Spanish audiences, victorious Carboni international realisation and spat. Many critics of the day chided Carboni for being shallow, with the lenient aspects of a pop sex symbolisation. Carboni's discography grew consistently through the late '90s and beyond, with new material released roughly every iI long time to a growing interview. U.S. and European touring between 2003 and 2007 won Carboni widespread popularity and spat, establishing him as force in the Italian recording industriousness.

Live Review

Last year saw the return of Matchbox Twenty after a hiatus during which original guitarist Adam Gaynor quit and vocalist Rob Thomas made his debut as a solo artist. Their latest release was a combination of greatest hits and six new tracks, which they've been promoting on a world tour.

If you were asked to name a band whose last (and only) Top 40 single was a decade ago who could sell out theatre venues, the chances are you would struggle. But this is exactly the feat that has been achieved by M20, on multiple nights no less, which as much a testament to the quality of their music as it is the loyalty of their fans. Opening with new track 'How Far We've Come', they effortlessly work the crowd in a way that band's with over ten year's experience can, weaving the hits with cult favourites. Masters of their instruments, Thomas sings the likes of '3AM' and 'Back 2 Good' as if they were penned that morning, losing no passion for songs that were originally released in 1996.

During the 21 song set it becomes apparent that the band has more energy than is usually credited to bands of the 'MOR' style, 'Long Day' and 'If I Fall' having plenty of bounce and tempo which wouldn't go amiss on the festival circuit. A stripped down version of 'If You're Gone' is the only slight misdemeanour, losing out on the grandness which makes the studio version so enjoyable, but few complaints will be heard in a crowd which gets the predicable finale of the aforementioned 'hit' - 'Push'. As big a sing-a-long as you're likely to hear, you can't help but wonder how a band who have sold a reported 44 million records worldwide can have such a relatively low profile in the UK. Still, for those in the know about them, they've made a welcome return and are likely to be greeted with open arms should they return in future.
